YOUR STAY ABROAD ON A SAILING SHIP
Instead of a traditional year abroad with a host family, this exceptional educational program offers the opportunity to discover the world on a sailing ship . Aboard the tall ship Regina Maris, you'll travel to various countries over three or six months , experiencing a unique combination of academic learning and intercultural adventure . Together with 32 other young people aged 14 to 17 (secondary school level I and II), you'll sail from October to April across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and back again.
The three-month option includes a change in Panama in January.
The lessons don't stay on land, but are integrated into everyday life on board. This way, you won't miss any of the schoolwork and can return to your home school without any gaps in your knowledge – enriched by valuable experiences, unforgettable memories, and a true adventure on the high seas!
SAFELY ON COURSE
On the Regina Maris, you'll not just be a passenger, but an active crew member, and experience sailing firsthand! Under the guidance of the experienced crew, you'll take on important tasks: setting sail, steering, and course planning using real navigation instruments. The daily routine on board is characterized by collaboration —everyone takes responsibility, whether in the galley, navigating, or on deck. This strengthens team spirit, communication, and problem-solving . Safety measures such as life jackets, emergency drills, and briefings ensure a safe environment. Challenges such as wind and weather promote independence, new perspectives, and build self-confidence. For 17 years, we've been sailing the Regina Maris across the Atlantic to the Caribbean —and every year, students are invited to be part of this unforgettable journey! We're proud to take young travelers on the adventure of a lifetime and introduce them to the world.
NAUTIC HORIZONS - YOUR STAY ABROAD FOR 3 OR 6 MONTHS
Nautic Horizons is a unique educational project that offers you the opportunity to combine academic study and intensive sailing experience while you study abroad. With us, you continue your regular curriculum as you would at home while you explore the world at sea and on land.
In an inspiring, international environment , you'll sail around the world for 90 or 183 days as a student – completely unaccompanied by parental supervision and with restricted cell phone use. This creates space for real adventures, intense encounters, and valuable personal experiences that will leave a lasting impression.
For this international project, you can choose whether you want to participate for three months or six months. You can choose your own leg : from Amsterdam to Panama, from Panama back to Amsterdam, or the entire six-month trip.
The country projects are selected to allow you to discover your passion, strengthen your talents , and develop them further. Whether you choose three or six months , you'll become more open-minded, gain intercultural experience, and develop valuable skills.

OUR HISTORY
We – Marie and Rona – founded Nautic Horizons with a clear vision: to encourage young people to leave their comfort zone , discover the world and grow personally – without losing touch with their academics.
Our own voyage on this very ship in 2012/2014 was a time full of adventures, challenges, and unforgettable moments. It not only shaped us, but also showed us how much travel can broaden our horizons. We want to pass this experience on to a new generation of young explorers who are ready to surpass themselves.

For over 17 years, the Regina Maris has been sailing across the Atlantic to the Caribbean – helmed by Captain Martin Duba and an experienced crew. For many years, we have accompanied young people on this unique journey, ensuring that their journey to the Caribbean and back is safe and memorable with our expertise and safety standards .
Our carefully selected land-based projects offer participants valuable insights into diverse cultures and provide in-depth learning experiences beyond the classroom. Our many years at sea have taught us what truly matters—and this knowledge flows into every aspect of Nautic Horizons.
We're proud to say: Nautic Horizons is far more than a journey. It's an educational project that allows you to grow – personally, culturally, and humanly.
With Nautic Horizons you travel across the Atlantic on the Regina Maris: six months of school at sea, full of adventure, lessons and team spirit.
For those who prefer a shorter trip, we also offer a 3-month program – with entry or exit in Panama.
The change in the middle of the journey is not a break, but an opportunity to get to know new people and to allow the crew to grow together again.
Changing watches and cabins naturally creates a strong sense of community – no matter how long you are on board.
