YOUR STAY ABROAD ON A SAILING SHIP
Instead of a traditional year abroad with a host family, this exceptional educational program offers the opportunity to discover the world on a sailing ship . On board the tall ship Regina Maris, you will travel to different countries in three or six months and experience a unique combination of school education and intercultural adventure . Together with 33 other young people aged 14 to 17 (secondary level I and II), you will sail from October to April across the Atlantic to the Caribbean and back again.
The three-month option includes a change in Panama in January.
The lessons do not remain on land, but are integrated into everyday life on board. This means you do not miss any school material and can return to your home school without any gaps in knowledge - enriched with valuable experiences, unforgettable memories and a real adventure on the high seas!
SAFELY ON COURSE
On the Regina Maris you will not only be a passenger, but also an active crew member and experience sailing up close! Under the guidance of the experienced crew, you will take on important tasks: setting sails, steering and course planning with real navigation instruments. The daily routine on board is characterized by cooperation - everyone has responsibility, be it in the galley, navigating or on deck. Team spirit, communication and problem solving are strengthened. Safety measures such as life jackets, emergency drills and instructions ensure a safe environment. Challenges such as wind and weather promote independence, new perspectives and strengthen self-confidence. We have been sailing across the Atlantic to the Caribbean with the Regina Maris for 17 years - and every year students are allowed to be part of this unforgettable journey! We are proud to take young travelers on the adventure of a lifetime and introduce them to the world.
NAUTIC HORIZONS -
YOUR PROJECT ABROAD
FOR THREE OR SIX MONTHS - THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
Nautic Horizons is a unique educational project that offers you the opportunity to combine academic training and intensive sailing experience while you are abroad. With us, the normal curriculum continues as you would at home while you discover the world at sea and on land.
In an inspiring, international environment , you as a student will sail around the world for 90 or 183 days - without parental supervision and with limited mobile phone use. This creates space for real adventures, intense encounters and valuable personal experiences that will leave a lasting impression on you.
In this project abroad, you can choose whether you want to take part for three months or half a year. You can choose your stage yourself: from Amsterdam to Panama, from Panama back to Amsterdam, or the entire six-month trip.
The country projects are selected so that you can discover your own passion, strengthen your talents and develop them further. Whether you choose three or six months - you will become more cosmopolitan, gain intercultural experience and develop valuable skills.

OUR HISTORY
We – Marie and Rona – founded Nautic Horizons with a clear vision: to encourage young people to leave their comfort zone , discover the world and grow personally – without falling behind in school.
Our own trip in 2012/2014 on this very ship was a time full of adventure, challenges and unforgettable moments. It not only shaped us, but also showed us how much travel can broaden our horizons. We want to pass on this experience to a new generation of young explorers who are ready to surpass themselves.
EXPERIENCE FOR MORE THAN 17 YEARS
The Regina Maris has been sailing across the Atlantic to the Caribbean for over 17 years - steered by Captain Martin Duba and an experienced team. We have been accompanying young people on this unique journey for many years and, with our expertise and safety standards , ensure that they sail safely and unforgettable to the Caribbean and back.
Our carefully selected land projects offer participants valuable insights into different cultures and enable in-depth learning experiences outside the classroom. The many years at sea have taught us what really matters - and it is precisely this knowledge that flows into every detail of Nautic Horizons.
We are proud to say that Nautic Horizons is much more than a journey. It is an educational project that allows you to grow – personally, culturally and humanly.
